The Boxer dog

The Boxer dogs can be counted among the extremely arty creations of the Almighty. There is a much heard legend about these dogs, which says, God decided to create dogs with clay, and built the Boxer dog as the most attractive and gorgeous of the lot. The Boxer came to know about this, and went running towards the mirror, but collided against it. As a result, his damp mouth crashed against the mirror and he had an everlasting flat muzzle. These tales are heard only because of the sheer popularity of the Boxers.

Boxer dogs are the result of the cross between the Brabanter and the English bulldog. The breeders had to wait for many cross breeding to get a stabilized output, i.e. a Boxer dog of uniform quality. The first Boxer was a bitch, named as “Meta von der Passage”. She gave birth to a large number of healthy puppies of similar features and these little ones helped in the final stabilization of the Boxer breed. Thereafter in 1894, templates providing information about the Boxer dogs were in print. In the next two consecutive years the Boxers participated in their first ever dog show in Munich, and the first Boxer club was founded.

The most salient feature in the appearance of this kind is a protruding lower jaw, bended a bit upwards. They own a small and straight coat with a dark face. The Boxers can have a coat ranging from white, fawn to brindle and may or may not have stripes or spots on their body. At times black Boxers are also seen, but they are not purebred.

There is no exact fact known regarding the reason behind these dogs being named as the ‘Boxer dogs’. Some believe that they got such a name for their tendency to stand up on the hind limbs and use the front legs to fight like a boxer, especially when they are in a playful mood. This explanation is not accepted by most, as the sport ‘Boxing’ is a National symbol for the British and it is almost impossible for the Germans to name their new discovery on such a theme. Other people think that these dogs are named according to their colour by corrupting the word “boxl”, meaning short trouser.

The Boxers are very active by nature and thus fall under the ‘working dog’ category, the American Kennel Club describes these dogs as the most registered working dog on this planet. Having a Boxer dog as pet is always a delight for the master; they are very responsive in nature and excellent in case of interacting with children. If one has a Boxer dog at his place, he will never face monotony or run out of company.
